About the Artist

Belinda Hart  was born in Southern Indiana, just opposite Louisville, Ky.  She is an avid fan of the Kentucky Derby and never misses the opportunity to make mint juleps on the first Saturday in May. Her formal education comprises a B.A. in literature with a minor in art history and an MBA in international finance.  Belinda served as an equity partner in an investment advisory firm for many years. She decided to leave that career in the financial industry to pursue life as an artist on a full-time basis.  She and her husband found a property in CA with the remains of an old goat barn that sat high on a ridge overlooking the Santa Ynez Valley.  They re-built the barn from the ground up. The space is shared equally--Belinda with a spacious textile art studio, and her husband, a musician and composer, with a state-of-the-art private recording studio.

Belinda has studied with many of the renowned masters of fiber art.  She utilizes
the skills she has developed through those studies to reflect her own style and voice.  Her work begins with hand-dying fabrics using the Arashi Shibori method.  The
resulting fabric is then screen printed using hand drawn designs.  She often writes poetry to print onto the surface, then adds paint and appliqué. When the surface design is complete, she layers fabrics and stitches the layers together to create depth and substance.

Belinda enjoys working in series. Some of her more frequently exhibited series include The Vineyard Series and the Arbor Series.
